Topaz Marine have contracted Tec-source EECS to update the ships single line electrical diagram and estimated electrical load schedule to determine if the ships have sufficient power generation capacity to allow the installation of a second stern thruster in the first phase of the plan to upgrade the vessels from DP2to DP3.
Jura was built at Ferguson Shipbuilders in Port Glasgow in 1995 and Islay at the Kvaerner Govan yard in Glasgow (Now Bae Systems) in the same year.
The ships are powered by 2 off shaft alternators and two auxiliary generators rated at 1950kW & 335kW respectively.
The switchboards have a semi automatic control system that allows the selection of a number of modes to match the operations of the ship. For DP3 consideration the two critical modes are discharging cargo whilst maintaining position at the rig or holding position whilst in anchor handling mode.
